selma's bakery and deli

for lunch i went to selma's bakery and deli. it's a little mediterranean food deli in gresham on 2nd street. they have yummy falafel and hummus, and make their own pita bread. i had a falafel wrap, and it was huge. i brought half of it home with me. i also got some of their pita bread, and roasted red pepper hummus. so good!

shrimp


so my boyfriend is really the cook of the house, but he is at work right now. i really wanted some shrimp but didn't really know how to make it so i ended up just winging it and it turned out pretty good. i started some white rice, and then cooked up some shrimp in butter with just a bunch of different seasonings like garlic powder, salt and pepper, johnny salt, and any other seasonings you want. oh and a little bit of hot sauce. then i scrambled an egg in the seasonings left in the pan from the shrimp, and then cut up and added some artichoke hearts. then i mixed it all in with the rice and added some soy sauce and it turned out good!

Choose My Plate

This is the USDA's new food icon, called MyPlate. I love it, I think this is a great idea. It's much easier to understand than the food pyramid. Half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables. Also, half of your grains should be whole grains.  I also noticed when looking through the website that most of the tips for protein did not include meat, besides fish.
